Nice work Don. Such a wonderful loose style you have, one that many of us wish we could accomplish.

I'm sorry Donald, I'm not much of a plein air painter at this time. I'm sure that I will eventualy learn to like it more but my focus right now is portrait and figure work. I'm going to be renting some instructional videos soon on plein air painting so we'll see. Thank you for thinking of me and I'm sure that Shane knows and has all of the emails of all of the interested painters.

Don: I think there is a gallery in Santa Fe you should contact. McLarry Fine Art at info@mclarryfineart.com. I receve their fliers regularly and your work is very close to the taste of that gallery. If I remember correctly, one of the art consultants name Karen used to live in Atlanta Georgia. I met her and chat with her during one of my trips (not many) to Santa Fe.
I just found out from this site that your wife Suzie is an artist and a good one. I like her work. Wonder if I can invite her as a friend.
Thanks, Margaret

Don: I would like to help you, but I really do not have any gallery connections in Japan. I had a one woman show of my dolls at Touching Stone Gallery in 2003 in Santa Fe, NW. This is a small gallery owned by Tim & Akiko. You probably already have connections in some galleries in Santa Fe. But if you don't you can probably contact them. Akiko, Tim's wife goes to Japn to scout for pottery artists every year or so. Possibily she would have some conenctions in galleries in Japan. Touching Stone's phone no. is (505) 988-8072.

Hello Donald,
Thanks for joining the artist group and for your compliment. There is now a option for you to update your page with your biography info and you can also chat online. I would like to check out your coop soon. Is there a certain time to drop by? Hope all is well. Thank you once again.

Hi, Donald. I've just gotten your request. Haven't had time to get on here. I'm trying to add photos again of my work, but, so far, no luck. I don't think my images are too large and this time I tried adding just 3. Guess I'll try just 1 and see what happens. I don't know why Mark seems to think my voice is so great. I think he has a much better tonal quality and that he ought to do it. I wouldn't mind, but how do I do it?

Biography
As a teenager in the 1960s,
Don Maier began working
in watercolor as a means
of adding color notations
to pencil sketches, which
later became oil paintings as he worked in his
bedroom at night. He became increasingly
proficient at watercolor, enjoying the freedom
of capturing an image on location in one sitting.
A fast-drying medium, watercolor demands a
rapid approach. Maier finds it very fulfilling
to be able to walk away with a finished piece
within one hour as opposed to when he works
in oil or dry pastel, which required multiple
sittings.
A native of New Jersey, Maier served in the
Navy and fell in love with the western landscape
while stationed in California. He made painting
trips to Yosemite and the Californian desert.
Following a move to San Francisco in 1975,
Maier began to paint his favorite subjects -
Arizona’s deserts and national parks, particularly
the Four Corners region, including Monument
Valley and Canyon de Chelly.
Maier enjoys the challenges of painting in the
desert: the aridity, the sand and wind, and the
constantly changing cloud patterns on the
ground. He does not spend a great deal of time
thinking about his subjects, choosing instead to
paint because he loves the process.
Since 1994, Maier has made Marietta his
home. He paints Sope Creek near his house as
well as continuing to travel in the West as often
as possible. He admires the work of Frederick
Remington, Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer,
and John Singer Sargent. Maier has exhibited
his work in several gallery exhibitions in New
Jersey, California, and Arizona. A graduate of
the Newark School of Fine & Industrial Arts,
Maier taught Color & Design, Illustration,
and Computer Graphics for nearly ten years at
Bauder College in Atlanta.

Plein Air Painting Campers

I was going through old photos the other day when I came across some photos of my camping vehicles that I have had over the years, that I used on my watercolor painting trips. From 1973 to around 1990 I had two VW Mini Buses.

This photo of my 1969 Dodge Camper Special with the 3/4… Continue
